Andor provides viewers with a new view of the Star Wars universe. It focuses on something other than the war between Jedi and Sith and more on the political tension and life under an oppressive government.
In telling these human and grounded stories, we discover a section in Star Wars mirroring our present world but is set in a galaxy from us.
The story is set five years before what transpired in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; Andor follows Cassian (Diego Luna), an escaped thief who becomes a part of the revolution begun by the newly established Rebel Alliance.
By reading this article, you can find out what the Andor series has been up to.
What Andor All About
Unofficially, Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It is which is set five years before the assault on the Empire. The official summary is available by Disney:
"The Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor's journey to discover the difference he can make.
The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning Rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It's an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero."
More Than 100 Characters in Andor
Gilroy disclosed that the first season has 190 speaking parts.
One character that fans should expect to avoid seeing in the first season is Cassian Andor's droid companion, K-2SO. The show's creator explained that, even though K-2SO is "a story we are eager to tell," it could have been "difficult carrying an Imperial droid with you and not attract all sorts of attention.
It's a very difficult item to carry around." Instead, K-2SO will appear during Season 2, which will last for four years and be directly tied into the 2016 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Andor Cast
Star Wars: Andor is created by Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy. The film stars these actors
- Stellan Skarsgard as Luthen Rael
- Kyle Soller as Syril
- Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma
- Fiona Shaw as Marva
- Diego Luna as Cassian Andor
- Denise Gough as Dedra Meero
- Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen
Andor's Plot
There's a five-year gap between the events of Rogue One and this story.
"Some of us… must of us… we've all done terrible things on behalf of the Rebellion. Spies, saboteurs, assassins. Everything I did, I did for the Rebellion. And every time I walked away from something I wanted to forget… I told myself it was for a cause that I believed in. A cause that was worth it." –the lines are spoken by Andor himself in Rogue One.
In Star Wars, conflicts are frequently depicted as "good guys versus bad guys." However, everyone acknowledges that the Galactic Empire is evil at its core.
The Rebel Alliance is anything but harmless. If rebels were determined to take on their Empire, they wouldn't be able to do so by playing fair.
For years, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo have been the key characters in the Rebel Alliance. They were the symbol of optimism in a universe in dire need. However, some needed to do their part to accomplish their mission.
Everyone is excited to look at the grey areas the series will investigate and learn about the lengths some participants are willing to go to accomplish their tasks. Is there a boundary that Cassian Andor isn't ready to cross? Or has he vowed to the cause regardless of the price?
Many new characters, planets, and locations will be revealed. It is the first time in mainstream media that we hear from a Rebel Alliance operative.
Questions Left Unanswered And Future Speculation
Andor has demonstrated how the Rebels revolt and what a scourge the Empire is. However, there is still no answer to why this Empire has become so evil.
When are you conscious of the crimes the Empire is guilty of?
What kind of desensitization can allow people to join the Empire in its battles that involve colonization or otherization? What caused the Imperial officers to become dehumanized?
One answer could be the storyline that follows Syril Karn. A shadowy mirror of Andor Karn's storyline, it could demonstrate how a normal Imperial officer can be radicalized in their fervent determination to maintain order in society, possibly even dying to advance their cause.
Based on the way we've watched Karn change from a strict Imperial officer into a spooky lonely, delusional, and rejected individual throughout ten episodes that have aired so up to now,
Everyone wouldn't be shocked to see his character suffer some dark and possibly violent taxi driver analogies before the conclusion of the season.
Andor Avoids The Typical Pitfalls Of Prequels
Various franchises trying to prolong their lives with prequels, such as Fantastic Beasts, House of the Dragon, and Rings of Power, have all faced the same problems.
Every beat can be an episode of fans' service. Every twist is a sloppy false premise (that dragon-rider killed the other dragon differently than you'd been told).
Every character not named is inevitably an important actor in the story we've seen (yep, the one character was Sauron throughout).
Creating tension can be difficult when the fates of well-known heroes and villains are a factor in the plot. They are successful when they make their audience believe in strange characters as much as they do the well-known ones and can escape the constraints that are "the canon."
Variety Of Intriguing Characters
Andor refuses to accept the idea that the story must be tied to its place within the Star Wars universe beyond being a part of it.
Although we are aware that Cassian Andor will survive -- until it happens in Rogue One, regardless--Gilroy can create a variety of intriguing characters with new and exciting are not able to tell us what their fates are.
Many of them will die, which is a testament to the important messages of Andor and Rogue One. Many forgotten heroes perished for the sake of saving the world.
They didn't receive a medal. After seeing Andor in the movie, it is absurd to think that Han, Luke, and Leia are praised for being able to survive when many unnamed rebels suffered and gave up significantly more than these three did.
Hopes To See Andor Season 2
As we look towards the next season, more mentions of rebels across the galaxy from the previous Star Wars stories will surface.
There is an excellent chance that Grand Admiral Thrawn might be mentioned, just as Palpatine was at the ISB gatherings.
Last Thoughts About Andor Season 1
Overall, Andor was an incredible show, with a well-mapped-out plot that follows Cassian's story from beginning to end.
The great aspect of Star Wars stories interspersed between trilogies is their imagination. While Andor leads in two films, we are introduced to brand new characters and a few corners of the world.
We can discover more about the universe, and then the creators develop innovative ways to weave these characters into the stories they created.
Fans are eager to see the second season and what it has in store for us leading toward Rogue One.
