This article explains the colour meaning of lightsabers. Keep reading!

1.  Blue Lightsaber Meaning

In modern times, lightsaber colours don't carry the same significance as earlier ones. And the meanings for each colour are based on their historical significance, not the significance of their contemporary relevance.

The modern characters retained the symbolism of Lucas and the other writers. In this sense, the blue lightsaber, which can also be the most popular one in the galaxy, represents the character of the Jedi Guardian as the guardian of the Jedi Order.

Jedi Order and an individual who embodied courage and justice. Jedi Guardians were warriors, and they stood up for the practices of the Jedi, and the blue hue of their sabres reflects these qualities in them.

The two most well-known owners of blue lightsabers include Obi-Wan Kenobi, the best illustration of the traits mentioned above, and his former Padawan Anakin Skywalker

2.  Lightsaber in Green Meaning

The green lightsaber is the second most frequently used colour by Jedi because this colour is associated with the characteristics of harmony, kindness, cooperation, spirituality, and a demonstrable sense of goodwill.

In Canonical terms, the green lightsabers are typically used by the older, wiser Jedi like Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn and then Luke Skywalker after completing his Jedi training.

It's important to note that Ahsoka Tano has the lightsaber shoto in a pale green too.

In the Expanded Universe, green lightsabers represent the character of a Jedi Consular, yet this needs to be mentioned more extensively throughout the Disney canon.

3.  Red Lightsaber Meaning

Sith Lords such as Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and the Grand Inquisitor had iconic lightsabers with red blades.

The Jedi prohibited their use of Kyber crystals to Dark Side users, and this caused the Sith to make synthetic crystals emitting the famous red colour.

That distinguished them from other Force users because they desired to use that dark side.

4.  Lightsabers Purple in Colour (Jedi Master Mace Windu)

While purple lightsabers are less common, they are considered symbols of awe and power.

Mace Windu is one of the only Jedi in Star Wars to possess a purple lightsaber. It's widely believed that Mace Windu is one of the most knowledgeable Jedi.

5.  Yellow Lightsaber Meaning

The lightsabers of yellow are typically only observed when a user experiences an identity change. It's a highly unique colour which has been only kept on a few occasions within the Star Wars universe.

Recently, the lightsaber in yellow was used when Rey changed her name to Skywalker towards the end of the film The Rise of Skywalker.

Then her lightsaber, which was blue before, turned to gold.

However, Jedi Temple guards don't reveal their identities as part of their positions. While doing so, their lightsabers change colour to yellow.

Yellow is a symbol of energy and warmth, as well as sunshine and optimism. Other famous yellow lightsaber wearers include Asajj Ventress and the twins Arcann and Thexon.

6.  Orange Lightsaber Meaning

Because it is highly uncommon, we have yet to learn about the lightsaber in orange. We know it was in canon before the massive Disney purge, and it is featured within Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

A theory suggests that it's a seldom utilized colour since it is used by those who have pledged not to utilize their weapons unless required.

That means that the orange lightsaber symbolizes the peace of the Force. Another theory, however, is that it was utilized in the hands of the Sith initially.

However, the practice is now put aside. It is also a part of the notion the lightsaber in orange is the cleansed red kyber crystal, which has remnants of the original redness.

In the end, the game's guideline says that the orange lightsaber symbolizes an individual with a gap within them that is not likely to fill.

Whatever the best theory, we'll have to keep an open mind since today's canon doesn't reveal anything. Since Fallen Order came out, Yaddle (the female Yoda from The Prequel Trilogy) also possessed an orange lightsaber.

7.  Silver Lightsabers

In the end, silver lightsabers are a symbol of peace and purity.

The silver lightsaber that Obi-Wan Kenobi uses to battle old apprentice Darth Vader can be seen in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. That marks the end of Kenobi's tenure as Jedi as well as the start of his brand-new job as a peacekeeper.

8.  White Lightsaber Meaning

While not entirely original white lightsabers are the rare items in the galaxy, the two most famous examples are Ahsoka Tano's white lightsabers.

They symbolize autonomy and neutrality, and, while they are connected to their respective Light Side of the Force, they also represent a person who has broken ties with the Jedi while remaining to the Light Side as well as an individual who is not connected or connected to that Dark Side of the Force.

9.  Black (Darksaber)

A black lightsaber is so rare that only one is known to exist in the official canon. The lightsaber in question is known as the Darksaber, also a renowned tool from The Mandalorians.

Its Darksaber was also distinctive in that, in contrast to the usual lightsaber shape, the blade was straight and resembled a sword.

Moff Gideon wielded the Darksaber in The Mandalorian.

Contrary to conventional Canon, Galen Marek, also known as Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice, used a black lightsaber in Star Wars Legends.

The black colour symbolizes darkness, power, mystery, aggression, and absence.
